Why He’s Running
It’s never been more important to ensure that our government is run effectively and that policy decisions consider everyone in our community and unintended consequences. Longmont is facing an unprecedented combination of housing, economic, and environmental challenges — exacerbated by increased uncertainty with the market, state funding, and the federal government.
Matthew wants Longmont to thrive despite these challenges. This means helping Longmont proactively, not reactively manage Longmont’s growth by embracing future redevelopment in our industrial past. We don’t want developers to control our fate. We want transit that is safe and convenient, not scraps from RTD. We want to embrace the opportunities that Sundance Film Festival offers, not let it trample Longmont.
Matthew knows how to work across sectors and cut through politics to make local government work for communities. Professionally, he’s worked with the Obama, Trump, and Biden Administrations to secure funding for cities. Matthew brings over a decade of experience working with local governments to make market-based, cost-effective investments in renewable energy, sustainability, transportation, and community development to prepare for extreme weather, manage cost increases, and meet the needs of all residents, now and in the future.
This is also what he will do for Longmont — and what he has already been working on in his first year on City Council and as chair of Longmont’s Urban Renewal Authority. If elected, Matthew won’t just advocate for you with broad promises, he will do the work to make Longmont an even better place to live.
